Opening celebration
A great round of praise goes to all those who have contributed to the implementation of this successful world premiere of the first STRENFLEX Fitness Sport World Championship. These include not just the fantastic athletic participants but also the excellent judges and their fast work.

The Strenflex judges:
Isabelle Baumann (CH)
Claudia Faes (CH)
Andrea Staneker (D)
Donna Danton (USA)
Elena Levy (RUS)
Furthermore, the deputy chief judge Claudia Faes Aventaggio from Switzerland, Donna Danton from the United States, Andrea Staneker from Germany, Elena Levy from Russia and Isabelle Baumann from Switzerland deserve a special commendation. Credit is due to the Technical Tribunal, consisting of the two men on the judges’ team, Dario Karamatic from Croatia and Boris Reinhardt from Germany, for the fact that the competition was conducted in a timeframe in agreement with regulations and that the evaluation proceeded quickly and correctly.

This World Championship spectacle was well organized: from the athletes entering with their national flags, the national anthems and the beautiful winners’ medals, which were presented to the winners on a purple cushion, to the flower bouquets for the five finalists.

This was a World Championship that all participants won’t forget for quite some time. On March 29, 2003, the second STRENFLEX Fitness Sport World Championship will take place in Miami, Florida. It will be the second championship for women and the first one for men. This year, the competitors will be able to compete two more times, once during the European Championship on October 26, 2002, in Frankfurt, Germany, during the LIFETIME specialist trade fair and during the World Cup in Austria at the end of November.

I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to the first STRENFLEX sponsors for their generous gifts: To AIREX, which gave its items to the five top-ranked athletes, POLAR-LMT Switzerland, which presented the three top-ranked competitors with a Polar pulse-watch, and to Technogym Switzerland & Italy, which provided the "heavyweights," i.e. the barbells and barbell disks. Unfortunately, the event was not organized in an optimal fashion by the organizer, and the STRENFLEX sports organization has drawn the obvious conclusions for future championships.
Antonia Conzett-Gutschi. The 22-year-old student, who was born on March 26, 1980, attends the International School for Tourism (IST) in Zurich and has been doing fitness training for four years in the following gyms: Activ Fitnesscenter and sometimes also at the TC-Airgate, both in Zurich. She discovered the new STRENFLEX Fitness Sport through an article in FITNESS TRIBUNE (www.fitnesstribune.com).
She developed a spontaneous enthusiasm for the idea and concept of the new sport and was one of the first people to register for the first workshop during the FITMESS fair in Basel in the beginning of March. Ever since this workshop, she specifically practiced the required 14 STRENFLEX exercises several times a week.
She would have never thought that she would be the first STRENFLEX World Champion. Since interim results are announced each time at STRENFLEX championships and she was technically in the lead since the beginning of the competition, she made a huge effort: The championship title was within her reach. Also in view of the upcoming European Championship, an interview with Antonia will be published in the next issue of the magazine.
